Shopify development, Los Angeles
Shopify development you can trust.
I fix, build and extend Shopify stores for brands, and I take on Shopify work for agencies that need a developer who's also a designer. You get clear estimates, clean code and updates without having to chase them.
Two kinds of clients
Most of my Shopify work comes from two places.
Brands with a store to look after
You run a Shopify store and something needs doing. A theme change your current setup can't handle, a product page that needs more than the theme offers, an app that broke the cart, a slow homepage. You want someone who reads the code before touching it and tells you what it will take.
What I work onAgencies and designers
You sell the project and design it. I build it in Shopify, under your name, and talk to you rather than your client unless you'd like me in the room. Figma in, working theme out.
How white-label worksWhat dependable means
The boring parts are the point.
Most Shopify problems people bring me are not hard. They got messy because the last developer disappeared, edited the live theme directly, or left no notes. So I keep things simple and predictable.
- Changes are built on a duplicate theme and previewed before anything goes live.
- You get a written estimate before work starts, and I flag it early if the scope changes.
- Settings go into the theme editor where it makes sense, so your team can change text and images without me.
Who you'll work with
I'm Ronen Hirsch, a designer and a developer, and I run Abra, a small studio in Los Angeles. Every decision on your store is made with both design and code in mind.
I also built and run Abra Sections, a Shopify app with "Built for Shopify" status. Building an app that has to work inside other people's themes teaches you a lot about how themes break.
How a job runs
From first message to live store.
Tell me what you need
Send a few lines about the store and the problem. Screenshots and links help more than long descriptions.
Get an estimate
I look at the theme and apps involved, then send scope, timing and cost in writing.
I build and you preview
Work happens on an unpublished copy of your theme. You click through it and ask for changes.
Go live
I publish when you're ready, then check the live store to make sure everything carried over.
Questions
Shopify development FAQ
Do you work on stores you didn't build?
Yes, most of my Shopify work is on existing stores. I start by reading through the theme and the installed apps so I understand what is already there before changing anything.
Can you work with my current theme?
Usually, yes. Whether it is Dawn, a paid theme from the Shopify Theme Store or a custom theme, I can extend it. If a theme is old enough that changes would cost more than moving to a current one, I will tell you that up front.
How do you price Shopify development?
Small jobs are estimated per task. Larger projects get a written quote with the scope spelled out. For ongoing help I can set up a monthly arrangement. See ongoing support.
Do you only do Shopify?
No. Through Abra, my studio, I also build WordPress sites and custom web apps. This site is just the Shopify side of the work.
We are an agency. Will you talk to our client?
Only if you want me to. By default I work through you and stay out of sight. More on the agency page.
Have a Shopify job waiting?
Tell me what it is and I'll come back with what it takes.
